Syntax Help

<< Syntax | TOC | Style >>

I lost all my syntax highlighting settings!

Can you give me some examples?
Open the syntax dialog by clicking on "syntax" in the "Options" menu of the Edit Window.
Here are some examples:
The tabs - Style 1, Style 2, Style 3, Style 4, Style 5, Style 6 allow you to specify a text style and what words and/or symbols to apply the style.
A style consists of foreground (text) color, background color, italic and/or bold.

MLS, SLC, Quote tabs allow you to specify the style to apply to Multi-line quotes, Single-line quotes and to quotes.

Other lets you specify the character(s) that denote:
single- and multi-line comments
code block begin and end
and the quotes symbol

  • This example is setup for java
  • The font tab lets you pick the font that will be applied to all styles.

Token delimiters

The token delimiters tell the Edit Window how to break up the syntax into pieces (tokens). It then applies a syntax style to each piece (token) if it can find the piece defined in your syntax style.

  • You define token delimiters on the "Other" tab.
  • Here is a useful list of Token delimiters - notice the first delimiter is a space:
 ;:.,{}0123456789\"()*-+=*/![]<>
